Hair Trends for 2024

You might already be through your ‘New Year, New You’ phase (hands up who’s failed on a New Year’s resolution already? 🙋‍♀️) or maybe you’re still in the mindset of thinking about your plans and ambitions for the year ahead. Either way, we’ve pulled together what we think are going to be the biggest 2024 hair trends to hopefully inspire you if you’re looking for a change now, or to give you some ideas for later in the year – maybe Spring is more your season of change?!

Cosmopolitan and Harpers Bazaar magazines are both tipping natural-looking colours for top hair trends of 2024, including shades like ‘Honey Blonde’ and colours that can be considered ‘Bronde’, which in essence is a very light brown, but not quite blonde shade.

In the Naturtint Permanent Hair Colour Gel range we have the exact shade to emulate that trend – 9N Honey Blonde! If you are lightening your natural colour by using the 9N and you have a tendency to go brassy, consider blending in an ash tone like the 8A Ash Blonde, to keep the colour looking natural. The Honey Blonde trend is a warm blonde as opposed to the bright blondes we’ve seen in previous years, but you’re looking to achieve a natural warmth rather than a red-based warmth.

‘Bronde’ is similar in that it’s about working with your own natural tones and highlights rather than switching up your colour completely. Take a look at the 6N Dark Blonde or 7N Hazelnut Blonde as some possible starting tones for this look, depending on your base shade. This look is great if you find it tricky to keep on top of your root regrowth, as the aim is to look as natural as possible so depending on your base shade, you can afford to let your roots grow out a little. ‘Low Contrast Roots’ was something People magazine are also predicting for 2024.

At the other end of the spectrum it’s being predicted that ultra-cool brunette tones will be big ‘in’ 2024 hair trends, favoured for the ultra-gloss, highly reflective look that can be achieved with this colour when the hair is in tip-top condition. Look at the brown shades in the ‘Natural’ tone family, rather than shades from the ‘Golden’ or ‘Copper’ tones, as these won’t have any warm tones in their composition. If you still have a tendency to ‘colour warm’, consider adding just a splash of the 6A Dark Ash Blonde (only suitable for the lighter brown shades like 5N) to keep your colour cool.

Don’t forget we have lots of helpful advice on our ‘Find Your Shade’ page if you’re not sure which colours are going to be suitable for your base shade, plus you can also give us a ring or chat to us online – we’re always happy to talk all things hair colour!

There seems to be some discourse between the leading voices in whether accessories like barettes and clips have had their moment, but all seem to be in agreement that headbands of many shapes and sizes will be everywhere in 2024. Think wide, fabric headbands that are perfect for creating simple updo’s (or better still, for when you’ve woken up late and don’t have time to wash your hair!) to padded headbands you might remember from your primary school days.

Bows are also set to be big this year, both in popularity and their literal size – Sarah Jessica Parker, always ahead of the fashion curve, was seen sporting an enormous bow to a gala in December and has since launched her own line of bows.

And as for whether barettes and clips have had their time in the spotlight, we say who cares?! You do you is our mantra, so if you’re still enjoying the jewelled clips you donned for your Christmas parties, crack on, I know we will be.
